Remember that: the suggested number of hours to cover the B1 threshold level is between 180 and 240 hours. Students might cover each level in more or less hours than this suggested number by Instituto Cervantes depending on different factors.
The most recognized tests that prove Spanish competence and locate students' level are the DELE and SIELE exams.
Students can split the coverage of these hours in as many courses they wish and the school, teacher, method and pace that works best for them.
Goals
At B1 level our goal is to transit from a linguistic "protected environment" to be introduced into the "real life" of the language. At this level, students start to rely less on the consideration of their conversational partners and start to listen and speak more naturally.
At this level, students will pass from expressing the strictly necessary, to start to use the language as a socialization tool at a very basic level. This will allow an enormous transmission of cultural information through their interactions.
By this point, students will understand the logic of how the language builds up which will allow them to add many more resources like tenses and modes to expand their expression.
